Finger Ring
A ring set with a pearl, usually a single dome-backed or button pearl in a protective setting.
Pearls are soft, around 2.5 to 4.5 on the Mohs scale, so a ring is the most exposed place to wear one.
Good pearl rings use bezel or half-bezel settings that shield the pearl's edge, and half-drilled pearls cemented onto a post rather than pierced through.
Astrological pearl rings are a category of their own, with specific requirements on metal, weight and which finger the ring is worn on.
When you are buying
Take a pearl ring off before washing your hands. Soap and repeated water contact break down the adhesive holding a half-drilled pearl to its post, and that is the most common pearl ring failure.
