Trillion Cut
A triangular cut, used both as a centre stone and as a pair of side stones.
Trillions are cut either with straight sides for a sharp modern outline or with curved sides for a softer one.
They are shallow relative to their face, so they look large for their weight.
The three points are fragile and need protecting in the setting.
Princess Cut
A square brilliant cut. Nearly as much sparkle as a round, with far less of the rough crystal wasted.
Baguette Cut
A small rectangular step cut, used almost entirely as a side stone flanking a larger centre.
Cut
How a stone is shaped and faceted. The one thing that most affects how it looks, and the one buyers examine least.
Prong Setting
Small metal claws gripping a stone at its edges. Maximum light, minimum protection.
