Pure Pearls Glossary
Adjustable
A necklace or bracelet with an extension chain, letting the wearer add an inch or two.
An adjustable piece ends in a short chain the clasp can hook into at several points, usually giving one to two inches of range.
It solves the biggest problem in buying jewellery as a gift, which is that you rarely know the recipient's measurements.
The extension has to be strong. It carries the whole weight of the piece at a single link.
When you are buying
For a gift, adjustable is worth choosing over a fixed length even if the fixed one is prettier. A necklace that does not fit does not get worn.

Choker Length
A necklace of about 14 to 16 inches, sitting snugly at the base of the throat.
Bracelet Length
Usually 7 to 8 inches. Should be about half an inch longer than the wrist so the piece moves rather than grips.
Clasp
The fastening that closes a necklace or bracelet. The most common point of failure and the most overlooked part of a purchase.
