Lines
How many parallel strands a necklace is made from. A 3-line necklace has three rows running together into one clasp.
Line count is the fastest way to change how substantial a piece looks. Three lines of 5mm pearls read far bolder than one line of 7mm, and usually cost less.
Multi-line pieces need spacer bars or a fanned clasp to stop the rows tangling, and that hardware is part of what you are paying for.
In Indian bridal jewellery high line counts are traditional, with taar malas and haram pieces running to many rows.
When you are buying
If you want presence for the money, buy line count rather than pearl size. The price of pearls climbs steeply with diameter and only gently with quantity.
