Sarpech

Jewellery StylesAlso called sarpanch, turban ornament, kalgi

A turban ornament worn at the front of a headdress, historically a mark of rank among Mughal and Rajput nobility.

Sar means head and pech means to twist, describing how the piece was fixed into a turban.

It typically rises into a plume shape, often set with an emerald or a spinel and hung with pearl drops.

The kalgi is the related feather-shaped ornament, sometimes holding a real heron plume.

When you are buying

Now worn mainly by grooms. The fixing matters more than the design, since a turban ornament that works loose during a ceremony is a real problem.
