Statement Piece
A single piece large or distinctive enough to carry an outfit by itself.
A statement piece is designed to be the only jewellery in view. Worn alongside other strong pieces, it stops working.
In pearls, scale usually comes from baroque or coin shapes, high line counts, or an unusual colour rather than from very large round pearls, which get expensive fast.
The test is simple: if you would need to remove something else to wear it, it is a statement piece.
When you are buying
Buy one statement piece rather than three moderate ones. It gets worn more, because it solves the whole outfit rather than adding to it.
