Halo Setting
A ring of small stones encircling a larger centre, making it look bigger and brighter.
A halo of pave stones around a centre stone can make it appear up to half a size larger.
It also protects the centre stone's edge, since the surrounding setting stands slightly proud of it.
Around a pearl, a halo is a common way to give a modest pearl presence without paying for a larger one.
When you are buying
A halo is a genuinely efficient way to buy apparent size. Just check the halo stones are set securely, since they take the knocks the centre stone is being spared.
Pave Setting
Many tiny stones set close together with minimal metal showing, so the surface reads as continuous sparkle.
Bezel Setting
A metal rim wrapped around the edge of a stone or pearl to hold it. The most protective setting there is.
Cocktail Ring
An oversized ring built around one dominant stone or cluster, worn as a single statement.
Finger Ring
A ring set with a pearl, usually a single dome-backed or button pearl in a protective setting.
