Opera Length
About 28 to 36 inches, reaching the breastbone or below. Can be doubled into a two-strand choker.
Opera length was made for high formal necklines. It hangs below the bust and creates a long vertical line.
Its practical advantage is versatility: doubled over, it becomes a two-row choker, so one necklace serves two entirely different looks.
It needs either well-matched pearls throughout or a deliberate graduation, because the whole length is on show at once.
When you are buying
The doubling trick makes opera length the best value in the range if you own only one pearl necklace. Check that the clasp is discreet enough to disappear when the strand is doubled.
